Mycrown

ShadeGroveUncommon

A green spore crown rises from an expansive, scalloped cap with luminous markings and substantial side caps. Its slow movements shelter an intricate community beneath the rim. It restores connections through patient changes in moisture and litter, allowing a new ring to follow the land's altered shape.

Mycrown

ShadeGrove

The story of Myclet.

Myclet and its evolutions are stout walking fungi of Duskfen's damp forest floor. Sculpted caps, curved gills, luminous spots, and later side growth distinguish a quiet controller whose presence is tied to the slow work beneath fallen wood.

A great tree fell across Stillcap Clearing during a long night of rain. Its branches broke the familiar mushroom ring into scattered patches, leaving open clay where creatures had once followed a soft path. A Myclet settled beside the torn edge. It did not try to move the tree. It moved small pieces of damp bark into the gaps and slept beneath them, returning each evening to a slightly longer line of shelter.

By the next wet season, a Capmudge walked that line among new fungi. Sporeback later widened the sheltered route around the trunk, and pale gills appeared beneath the old tree's loosening bark. When a Mycrown finally stood in the clearing, the fallen tree was still there, softened into a garden of small lives. Travelers called the ring restored, although its outline had changed completely. The creature followed the new curve without hesitation, carrying a strip of bark toward a fresh bare patch.

Origins & background

Duskfen's fallen wood remains damp enough to support extensive fungal growth. The line is a mobile part of that decomposer community, settling near suitable litter and maintaining connections between sheltered patches. Luminous cap spots become more prominent as it matures. Their glow identifies a living creature, but a whole glowing clearing should not be assumed to belong to one individual.

Behavior

Myclet waits in damp shelter during dry daylight and takes short, purposeful walks after moisture returns. Adults turn their caps to keep a companion beneath the broad edge. They dislike bare compacted ground and may spend several evenings carrying bark across the same small gap.

Diet

Moist decaying leaves, softened fallen wood, and organic-rich forest litter. They favor already decomposing material, leaving healthy living trunks and newly fallen hard branches largely untouched.

Place in the ecosystem

The line breaks down forest litter and moves damp material into exposed gaps. Its walking routes connect fungal patches, helping nutrients return to soils that support new roots and understory growth.

Neighbors & bonds

Sprighorn sleeping hollows accumulate the litter Myclet prefers. Rootnip often settle beside a restored fungal patch, and Scalip leave small openings in shaded banks that collect useful moisture without exposing an entire clearing.

Myclet ↗

A sturdy cream stem walks on rounded rootlike feet beneath one broad purple cap. Small warm-colored spots and visible curved gills give it a recognizable face above an otherwise quiet body. It carries damp bark with patient concentration, usually one manageable piece at a time.

Capmudge ↗

The main cap widens and acquires a stronger cream rim, while small side caps rise on flexible stalks. Its arms become more useful for gathering litter. It begins tending several linked resting patches rather than remaining beneath one dependable fallen log.

Sporeback ↗

Luminous jade spots appear across a broad sculpted cap above well-developed side growth. The gills form a complex sheltered underside. It favors routes that maintain contact between fungal patches, lingering where a dry or disturbed section interrupts an otherwise thriving clearing.

“I returned to measure the old mushroom ring and found no circle at all. The living connection had followed the fallen tree around a new corner.”— Hearthwild field notes
