MORE THAN A NAME
The story of Fanglim.
The Fanglim line is an athletic gold sabercat of storm-warmed grasslands. Coal stripes, long curved ivory fangs, a lightning mane, and an ember-tufted tail grow around a poised striker that studies movement before committing to pursuit.
Stormwarm's route book has separate columns for storm tracks, herd tracks, and sabercat sightings. During one troubled migration, the same marks filled all three columns along Lastlight Gully. A Sabersun kept appearing ahead of a grazing herd, then vanishing onto the higher ledges as the animals changed direction. The storm followed the open ridge, striking ground the herd had crossed earlier that morning.
The herd reached the gully's sheltered end before the strongest weather. Its watchers left the sabercat undisturbed on a warm ledge above them, where it groomed its mane and watched the rain. Later entries record a Solariyx using the same sequence of high overlooks. No one can know whether it remembered that single migration or simply understood the land exceptionally well. The route book preserves the observation without turning the creature into an obedient escort: a wild hunter chose its own path, and that path made room for others.
Origins & background
Warm basalt holds heat after the savanna air cools, making ledges valuable between hunting walks. The line's Spark mane becomes more prominent as its saber fangs lengthen, followed by an Ember character in mature growth. Its strength depends on controlled positioning as much as speed. Fieldkeepers study its routes from a distance, leaving favored overlooks available to the creature.
A PLACE TO BELONG
Life in Cinderreach.
Bright savannas, storm-warmed grasslands, and sunlit basalt ledges..
Behavior
Fanglim practices short stalks on moving seed heads and the end of its own tail. Adults pause at overlooks, watching where movement will lead rather than charging at the first sign of it. Tail flicks precede a change of attention, while a groomed lowered mane accompanies a settled rest.
Diet
Ground birds, stream fish, large grassland insects, and occasional soft fruit. Hunting adults range among several feeding grounds and spend long intervals resting on sun-warmed basalt between pursuits.
Place in the ecosystem
As a mobile grassland hunter, the line keeps prey from remaining concentrated around a single feeding patch. Its shifting routes leave periods of quiet in which grazed plants and disturbed resting grounds can recover.
Neighbors & bonds
Coaljoey watch for sabercats from open resting places and keep their youngest close. Curlamb sometimes share the sheltered edge of a storm route, while Tempestrix activity overhead offers another clue to weather moving across a hunting range.
ONE BOND, FOUR CHAPTERS
The Fanglim lineage.
Evolution combines experience with a meaningful milestone. A WildKin may keep its current form until its keeper is ready.
Fanglim Current
A gold kitten with dark rounded ears, curved coal stripes, small ivory saber fangs, and an ember-tufted tail. A short mane begins around its head. Its stalking practice is lively and frequently interrupted by a moving seed head more interesting than the original target.
Amberfang ↗
The saber fangs lengthen beneath a stronger muzzle, and additional mane quills sweep behind the ears. A longer body and fuller tail support balanced turns. It starts returning to favorite overlooks, learning how a moving group changes shape before crossing open ground.
Sabersun ↗
Gold lightning quills spread through a broad mane, while fine cyan traces mark strong forearms. Its curved fangs and athletic stance have become unmistakable. It studies weather and moving animals together, choosing an elevated position before committing to a longer journey.
Solariyx ↗
Long ivory sabers frame a mature face beneath an expansive lightning mane. A powerful gold body carries dense coal stripes and a sweeping ember tail tuft. Its movements are economical, combining high overlooks, measured pursuits, and deliberate rests along the changing edge of the storm-warmed savanna.
INSTINCT & ELEMENT
How it holds its own.
Charged Pursuit
Striking an enemy that moved last turn grants a small speed bonus for the next turn.
Sunfang Arc
SparkDash to one enemy, strike with the saber fangs, and arc a weaker spark to a nearby foe.
A WildKin equips up to four moves. Its secondary element joins at Prime, alongside its signature move. Read the battle and evolution rules →
FROM THE KEEPER’S NOTEBOOK
Meeting in the wild.
- 01
Study distant ledges before entering an active hunting route.
- 02
Wait until the creature has settled and lowered its mane.
- 03
Follow weather and herd tracks together when tracing its migration role.
“The Sabersun watched the herd, but its ears followed the thunder. I kept both observations in the route book and left the next line blank.”— Hearthwild field notes
