MORE THAN A NAME
The story of Ferritot.
Ferritot develops into an ore-bearing armadillo with articulated shell bands, copper seams, and exposed gold crystals. These deliberate diggers inhabit Brassdeep's mineral galleries, reading the ground through their broad feet and carefully chosen resting places.
The instrument makers of Singing Seam choose their stone chimes by the sounds left after a gentle tap. A young maker once followed an Oreburrow for a whole season, recording which gallery bends it dug around and which it avoided. She made no instrument during that time. Instead, she hung an unfinished wooden frame at each safe bend, letting the air itself provide the first notes.
When she finally returned with chimes, a Veinroll rested beneath the frame nearest its den. Its shell crystals gave a faint answering rattle whenever the deepest note sounded. The maker kept that note and removed the others. Her workshop now prepares quiet frames before fitting a single chime, leaving room to hear the gallery before filling it with music. An Adamantillo sometimes sleeps at the entrance, its broad feet on the floor and its bright ore growth turned toward the sound coming from within.
Origins & background
Brassdeep's accessible galleries alternate between stable mineral seams and softer old excavations. The line's flexible shell bands allow digging and rolling without enclosing it in one rigid dome. Exposed crystal growth is part of its living armor, not loose ore available for gathering. Older individuals revisit dependable seams and often reveal safer detours around an unstable face through their route choices.
A PLACE TO BELONG
Life in Brassdeep.
Copper seams, abandoned quarry paths, and dry mineral scrublands..
Behavior
Ferritot place their forefeet flat and pause before digging. Adults work in short bursts, clearing material aside before testing the next section. They often rest with crystals touching a familiar wall, and a creature repeatedly avoiding one bend is best observed rather than hurried through it.
Diet
Mineral-rich roots, cave tubers, soft ore crusts, and digging insects. They seek clean seams and move on when a feeding pocket no longer offers suitable loose material.
Place in the ecosystem
Their selective digging opens air and water routes through compacted cave soil. Small roots follow the resulting seams, and the cleared pockets provide temporary shelter without turning every gallery into a broad exposed excavation.
Neighbors & bonds
Pebblit understand the larger slabs surrounding an Oreburrow's favored seams. Platelit leave useful mineral exposures outside the caverns, while Terrapeb sometimes graze the root growth that emerges above a long-used digging gallery.
ONE BOND, FOUR CHAPTERS
The Ferritot lineage.
Evolution combines experience with a meaningful milestone. A WildKin may keep its current form until its keeper is ready.
Ferritot ↗
A round charcoal digger wears the first articulated stone shell bands, a copper muzzle, and small gold ore growth. Broad feet support its low posture beneath upright rounded ears. It tests every promising seam with a deliberate pause before beginning a short excavation.
Oreburrow ↗
Additional shell bands curve across a broader dome, and copper veins trace the sides beneath taller ore crystals. Its digging becomes more organized. It begins maintaining a dependable route between feeding pockets, leaving loose material where it will not choke the next bend.
Veinroll ↗
Layered mineral bands and larger gold growth make its rounded armor visibly richer without restricting the flexible body beneath. It pauses to compare neighboring seams and favors a gradual detour around an uncertain face. Familiar companions learn to recognize those thoughtful changes in direction.
Adamantillo Current
Broad shoulder drill growth joins an intricate banded shell crowned with exposed gold crystals. Strong forefeet and a ringed curved tail balance the mineral-heavy frame. It opens passages methodically, treating the intact structure around a route as carefully as the opening it intends to make.

Veinbreaker

FROM THE KEEPER’S NOTEBOOK
Meeting in the wild.
- 01
Look for broad forefoot prints that stop before a gallery bend.
- 02
Wait while the creature tests a seam before following its route.
- 03
Remove loose debris from an established detour instead of cutting a shortcut.
“I wanted the brightest ore seam. The Ferritot preferred the dull one beneath it, where its patient digging left both the roof and my route intact.”— Hearthwild field notes
